His Creativity on Display

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1

When you are studying the attributes of God, of course you must think of his mighty creative power. After all, the first verse in the Bible declares that God created everything! Think of it: there was nothing…no. thing. And suddenly, because God willed it so, there was this entire universe, in its profound vastness and beauty, all of the stars and all of the planets, the earth with its atmosphere teeming with life, and water!

Whether you believe it started from a big bang, or something from nothing, it was created by God. It was conceived in His mind, planned and designed, and spoken into existence: from the smallest atomic particles all the way to the massive star called UY Scuti, which is reported to be 5 billion times the volume of our own sun.

And consider this incredible creation we call Earth: the colors in a sunset sky, the boundless power of the ocean, the majesty of the mountains, the serenity of a morning walk in the forest. The beauty of the world can be seen all around us! It is so easy for us to take God’s beautiful creation for granted because we are accustomed to seeing it every day.

How long has it been since you slowed down, looked up into a starlit sky, and wondered at its awesome beauty. As a child I remember lying in the grass and looking up into the night sky...and for the very first time I really thought about how far away the stars and planets were, and how truly vast the universe is. It was too much for my mind to take in, so I just gazed in awe and wonder. It was the very beginning of me trying to understand God's majesty and power, and just how tiny and insignificant we are in comparison.

I believe that’s what the psalmist was thinking about when he wrote “When I consider Your heavens, the work of your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained. What is man that you are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” (Psalm 8:3-4)

There is something that happens within the human heart as we view and contemplate God's incredible creation. It is a stirring of the soul that is deeply spiritual and in total agreement with another Psalm, "The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork”  (Psalm 19:1). All of creation is for this purpose, to glorify God; to give us a clear and undeniable demonstration of His glory and majesty!

In those special moments when God allows you that special glimpse of His Glory through His marvelous creation, don't resist that urge from within that wants to worship Him and give Him glory. Go ahead and and sing with the hymn writer:

Oh Lord my God when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed!
Then sings my soul, my Savior, God to Thee, How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art!
