Fulfill Your Calling By Serving Others

Jesus is our perfect example in all areas of our life and this is certainly true about being a servant. Jesus as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords was willing to humble Himself to become a man. He could have come to earth as a king or ruler but further humbled Himself and came in the form of a servant. In Matthew 20:26-27 we read these words, “It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life--a ransom for many."

As our perfect example Jesus came to serve. As each of us examines our individual lives what do we find? Do we live our lives in service to others or are we always looking to be served? It is a great feeling to be served and have all of your needs met but God has given us a different calling. We as followers of Christ are called to humble ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. The only way we can follow our serving savior is to be people who serve.

Are you serving God and your church by using the Spiritual Gifts God has given you? If you are a disciple of Jesus Christ, then God has given you at least one gift so that you can serve the body of Christ. We here at Swift Creek Baptist Church need every member actively involved in ministry. Every person here at this great church has something to offer in service. You may be able to teach, or encourage, or come along side someone who is hurting and show them mercy. The problem is we get so wrapped up in our little world that we miss the opportunities all around us serve others.

When we are serving others we are serving our God. Jesus said,” I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.” Commit to finding your place of service within the body of Christ. There are hurting people all around us every day, people at church at work and across the street. Who will serve them? If not the church, then who? If not you, then who? Be like Christ and be a servant!
